certified flight instructor instrument (CFII)

Adding the Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) to an existing CFI certificate allows the instructor to provide training for the Instrument Rating.

Following are the minimum requirements:

Demonstrate instructional instrument proficiency for both ground and flight lessons

Need not pass an additional knowledge test

Pass the required practical test

There are no minimum hour requirements, except for the standard 3 hours of instruction received within the last 2 calendar months prior to the practical test.  If a person has maintained IFR currency, the addition of CFII will typically take between 5 and 10 hours to accomplish.  Approximate cost ranges between $1,250 and $2,500
